About Us

In 1976, the Housing Authority of the Town of Bethel was created as a non-profit organization to serve the local community by providing 40 apartments of safe and decent housing for low income senior citizens through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Section 8 elderly subsidized housing program. Less than ten years later, in 1986, an additional 40 non-subsidized apartments for low and moderate income senior citizens opened thanks to funding obtained through the State of Connecticut.

In 2011, we purchased Phineas Park, a low and moderate income multi-family apartment complex, a total of 25 apartments, located near downtown Bethel. As a condition of the sale, we entered into a partnership with the US Department of Agriculture's Rural Development (USDA/RD) program.

Rental assistance funding for our subsidized apartments is provided by HUD and the USDA/RD. The State of  Connecticut Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) currently oversees both of our senior housing complexes at Reynolds Ridge and the USDA oversees our multifamily units at Phineas Park.

It is our goal to provide safe and decent housing for low income families and senior citizens who qualify for the various federal and state programs we adminster. All applicants must meet the federal and state requirements for income and other qualifications as described in our Tenant Selection Plans (see Online Documents for more information).
